Complete Vocal Institute- Denmark

A recent trip to the Complete Vocal Institute, in Denmark , gave me a whole new set of teachings tools for worship  and  gospel vocals.  

March 2-6, I spent 5 days in Denmark at the Complete Vocal Institute, in the capital city, Copenhagen.

I had always heard about CVI  and had even met Catherine Sadolin back in 2009 at a British Voice Association workshop, where she shared details of her teaching method and how it works. 

So its a near 10 year since I wanted to attend her course but not having the opportunity to attend.  Until now.

Why Did I Attend?

I have spent 10 years researching for a vocal method to teaching gospel safely. Some methods are too Pop focused or too Musical Theatre  focused or too Classical focused. Not to say they couldn't apply to Gospel singing but, i feel, they simply do not understand the heart, soul and vocal demands of gospel. 

In fact, I'd go as far as to say authentic Gospel singing breaks some of the rules laid out in these methods. But, I won't be hasty in my conclusion as i haven't tried all of them yet! 

Anyways, I attended because it is my aim to find a healthy approach to singing authentic raw gospel vocals. 

 I applied as a test singer, which meant I could attend for free. 3 full day workshops worth about £600 in total. The only expense I needed to pay was for accommodation, which was less than £90 for the 5 days. God is Good!

What is CVT?

The CVT method is based on Modes and the voice being in a particular mode or modes when vocalising. These modes - when applied with an element of distortion - cover all areas of singing including GOSPEL. Hence the method is 'Complete'.

In Conclusion?

I have to say, CVT is probably the best workshops I have attended in the 10 years of teaching!  The Method is so easy to understand and you get instant results. The school  and people are genuinely friendly and welcoming and make you feel completely at home.
I actually didn't want to leave and was planning how I can come back from only the first workshop!
If there is one thing I will take away it is: If applied correctly the result is immediate.
