Gospel Worship: Sing smart, not hard

Gospel singing is a heavy vocal style that can take its toll on the voice of the worship leader or choir member, especially when we are required to sing for long periods of time, such as at conventions or special church services. It is why it is important to have a solid understanding of the voice mechanism both as an instrument and as form of communication. Remember, the primary function of the voice box is to defend first and communicate second. 

Learn To Sing Smart

One of the best ways of learning to sing smart is by taking time to understand vocal anatomy: the mechanics of the voicebox. 

Many of the most common vocal problems experienced when singing can be easily eliminated just by understanding how the voicebox works. 

The voicebox is made up of different parts that form one big organ(vocal tract) for voice production and like any other instrument, understanding what each part does on its own and then plays within the vocal tract, to produce voice, is as equally as important as a guitarist who knows that it is a neck, metal wire, pegs and a  body that are the individual components of his instrument, but, that only when assembled correctly and played can produce the familiar sound of a guitar. A competent guitarist would immediately have the advantage of knowing what his instrument can - or cannot-  acheive without causing damage.

To sing smart is to  gain the advantage of understanding what your voice can -or cannot- achieve without causing damage.
