Worship with a twist
Karaoke and Cupcakes is 'unorchestrated' worship with a twist. The twist being YOU choose the songs for the evening.
Bring your song or choose from the setlist and let us worship together. You can use the mic to raise your own song or ask a worship leader who will be on hand to sing it for you. Choose to share your story behind the song or just ask for it to be sung because you like it. Either way, let us worship together; passionate, free and unorchestrated. 19 ...speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, 20 always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. (Ephesians 5:19-20) The Story of 'Karaoke and Cupcakes'
Karaoke and Cupcakes came about as a a result of a task set by the leaders of the Christian business mentoring course, The Lions. The task was to take £20 and multiply it. Sounds simple enough. Except, it wasn't.
I didn't like the word Karaoke. I umm'ed and ahh'ed over it for some time, fearful that the word would be misunderstood or undermine the actual vision I had for the evening. Perhaps people would feel it was too raucous or they'd have images of an inanimate grey and cold music box, with a tinny mic, being presented for anyone, with the courage, to stand and wail into incoherently, giving it 'a go', like what you might see in a pub. Nothing could be further from my mind than that scenario. So how did i settle with the word 'Karaoke'? Well, I googled it! And was pleasantly pleased to find that Karaoke means 'without orchestration' (Urban dictionary) or in a simpler term, 'unorchestrated'. BOOM, and there you have it. What other word could sum up the essence of open, free and passionate worship, than 'unorchestrated'. Light refreshments and cakes will be sold, Proceeds will be donated to St Hughs.
