Imagine you buy the latest album from your favourite Worship Leader? You're settled down in a quiet place to soak and meditate, you're praying and you press play to start the track. What you hear are terrible, incoherent pitchy noises playing back in your ears. What you expected to hear was a sweet, dulcet and melodious voice, singing worship that you can easily listen to and sing along with, but instead its mumbling, incoherent, discordant and distracting. Now imagine that the worship leader is Matt Redman? Kari Jobe? Dante Bowe? Chandler Moore? CeCe Winans? Let's be honest. A mumbly, pitchy and incoherent voice is not what you really want to hear from your worship leaders, especially when you've spent money. So why do we allow it on Sunday Mornings? Now, before y'all start shouting, "Grace", hear me out a minute. First, the gift of Grace was not given as a means to avoid doing something. Its purpose wasn't given to keep us weak or provide us a 'get out' clause but it was given to allow God to be glorified through us; so His supernatural power can be seen. God says that His power is perfected through our weakness: Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. 9But He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is perfected in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly in my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest on me. 10That is why, for the sake of Christ, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.… 2 Corinthians 12:8-10 A principle you see here is that even though Paul recognised his weaknesses, he didn't make any excuses, He didn't say I can't or I won't. He didn't use Grace as a reason to back out, shut down or not try, or to say: "I'm not doing it." Why? because he wasn't relying on himself he was relying on God. He accepted that he would do what it would take to journey through the ordeals of ministry, regardless...by God's Grace So the purpose of God's Grace is not to provide a means of escape or a reason for excuse (it didn't work for Jonah) to do something correctly. Instead, the purpose of God's Grace is to help you succeed in and complete the ministry HE has called you too. So, going back to my question: why do we allow pitchy singing, bad harmonies and inconsistent vocal performances every week? 11 Reasons Why its Important to Sing Properly When Leading Worship
If you’re having problems with your voice when singing, it’s worth the time and investment to work with a vocal coach because, for many of us worship leaders, we do as much singing as any professional secular artist and experience the same wear and tear. Remember, your voice is at the forefront of service every Sunday and many people follow your lead. If you’re not singing properly, how can you expect them to follow you in song?
